The Intelligent Writing Tutor for ESL learners explores the transfer and long-term retention of acquired knowledge. Through a series of learning experiments, we look at both positive and negative transfer from a student's native language to English, the effects of an informed knowledge tracer on learning, and the role of level-appropriate feedback in achieving competency.
